Business Tax Preparation Solutions for 2022
June 6, 2022
Filing your taxes as a small business owner can be exceptionally stressful - there are so many deadlines and paperwork that it can be hard to figure everything out. Here’s a quick guide to all you need to know for this season’s business tax prep.

Tax Extensions
If you need a little bit of extra time to file your taxes, don’t worry, you can apply for a tax-filing extension. Keep in mind that you’ll need to pay your quarterly estimated taxes on time, but you can file later than usual.
- Sole proprietorships and single-owner LLCs must have applied for an extension by April 18, 2022, which extends their tax filing deadline to October 17, 2022.
- Partnerships and S Corporations must have applied by March 15, 2022, which extends their tax-filing deadline to September 15, 2022.
Tax Forms
Here are the forms you will need to complete your taxes.
- Sole proprietors and single-owner LLCs will need to file Schedule C as part of your Form 140, which is the form you file that accompanies your personal tax return.
- Partnerships and multi-owner LLCs will need to fill out Form 1065. These organizations pass profits and/or losses through to the business owners, who will then report their earnings on Schedule E on the 1040 Form. For extra help, you can use the Schedule K-1 form to assist you in this.
- If you own a business with employees, you must file a Form 941 in addition to the payroll taxes you withhold from employee paychecks.
- If your business is subject to excise taxes, you will need to file for Form 720.
- If your state has a sales tax, you must file out a state form for a sales tax return.
